Formatting Changes

Saturday, April 14th, 2007

I’ve been putting some work into the site lately, mostly on the back-end, but you will notice (hopefully) that the text of the posts is quite a bit larger and I can now also use headings to break up those really long articles to help you find the bits you’re interested in. My aim is to make the site as accessible as possible and hopefully pretty to look at, too.

I’m always open to suggestions for how the site can better serve you, my loyal readers, so don’t hesitate to write a comment here on this post, or e-mail me if you have any ideas. Cheers!

Lensbaby 3G

Friday, April 13th, 2007

Today I received my brand new Lensbaby 3G from B&H. I’ve been looking forward to buying one of these ever since the first version came out, but I’m very glad that I waited for the third iteration because the new features it has are (in my mind) indispensable.

I set up a very small tabletop studio rig yesterday, so I used it to explore the Lensbaby and see what it could do. It’s really a very nice piece of equipment with solid build quality, but make no mistake: it’s not easy to use. Having no functional autofocus means paying a lot more attention to the perceived focus and the way the bellows is manipulated takes getting used to. People without a fair amount of dexterity may become very frustrated with it.

Anyway, without further ado, here are a few samples.

Protecting Your Digital Rights

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

Someone might be publishing one of your photographs right now. Without your permission.

Photographers today are faced with the very real possibility that their rights are being violated due to the simplicity that digital media brings to the act of duplication and distribution of their work. Your ability as a photographer to understand and apply the tools and techniques available to protect your copyrights will contribute largely to how easily someone else can wrongly profit from your work and how easily you can seek remedies for that infringement. Harkness Park II

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

More photos from Harkness Memorial State Park. I’m playing with some new Photoshop techniques (and still giving Lightroom a run for its money), so I’ll be posting more specifically about that later. Perhaps another tutorial? We’ll see!
